12 Hours to 10 Hour Relay

Well, I must say I'm not sure how we managed to pull it off, but we got through our Relay event without a drop of rain. It was a fantastic day which started at 5am for myself and Mr de Thierry. We still weren't absolutely sure we were goires ng ahead, so wanted to check out the track before people started arriving at 6am.

Driving around the track to turn the self generated lights on was nerveracking.  I held my breathe most of the time, as I didn't want the tyres to sink in, or hear the water because I really wanted the day to go ahead.

Although it started off a little mist, it soon turned into a thick layer of fog.  It was a real delight when eventually the blue sky shone though.

The first couple of hours went by quite quickly with our students starting off with a hiss and a roar.  By 9.30am many of our students were on a go slow and had run out of steam.  Once we started giving teams the number of laps completed by all teams, it turned into a competition and the pace turned up.  The last 4 hours was extremely competitive, with teams working more strategically by placing runners along the track to complete laps a lot quicker than before.

All in all, it was a very successful day and I look forward to the PMI by staff and students to set us up for more improvements on this event next year.

Setting up the12 Hour Relay

This afternoon we saw many tents and gazebos being put up. Some were easier than others, but in the end, they were all up before the pm rain came. By about 6.30pm the rain subsided, but not before it left pools of water on our Relay track.  At this time we are counting on the weather settling overnight and giving us a dry start in the morning.

Hopefully we can get through the day without too much water, but only time will tell.

12 Hour Relay Friday 14th May

Well, it's Wednesday and I am holding my breath regarding the weather for this Friday.  Ideally I would love to run with this day rather than postpone, but the weather will make the decision in the end.  Could you imagine trying to do a 12hr relay in the rain.... No....

All going well, we have 510 students in relay teams who will have one representative on the track at all times.  Meeting time is about 6.30am with roll call and set up and then start time is 7am with the finish time being 7pm.

Anyway, we will make a call about this time tomorrow.

Wish us all luck!
